Thank you so much for posting this story. Words can not express the impact it has had on my heart. Having dealt with the parent who was allowed to push their blame onto another ~ usually on to myself; having been used as my mothers guilt pole that she would heal her wounds upon ~ I have for years tried to find an effective way of handling such a person. Yet, in my anguish I have always succumb to the pain she has caused me ~ finding great emotional turmoil and no way out. I believe it should be understandable. I did not have a proper example of how to handle such a situation as a child. In consequence, my coping skills in having to deal with her, were developed at 11 years old through my less than mature mind.

Until this day, I had not yet found a logical and well reasoned way of detouring and saving myself from the pain. The method described in the story is not only meant to educate a spouse on how to handle such a person. It is meant for the persons children as well.

I am so thankful that I too can commit myself to a non negotiable end of suffering. And, anything that displays itself as the opposite of my happiness, I don't buy... lol. Realistically, I know there will be good days and bad days. However, the courage displayed in this story of having the ability to keep the argument solely only in my mind ~ where I may say what I need without harming another in person ~ is so gracious and healing at the same time.

Wow...

Please keep this blog going. I feel that I can learn so much from it. So much that I was not given in my raising. And, so much that I thirst to learn.

Thank you kindly

Terry -

I've read your post several times and I've delayed responding because I just don't know what to say. I can't figure out if you are serious or not. In regards to what is fair or not, I say that the way to be THE MOST FAIR is to allow a woman to choose her spouse and live her life in whatever manner she sees fit without government dictating who she is and is not allowed to marry.

I think this should be allowed if the party agrees to it.Now still respecting the laws, the main husband/wife should legally be married & others just spiritually w/o legal documents attached. Now if the husband has a will & wants to put the other wives names in it as benificiaries besides the wife that's up to him, or equally dividing things. I donot know how'd they do this. As for the FLDS, & underage, I think the woman should be 21 if she wants to marry. 18 is still too young though she's an adult.

For some guys it is difficult to find a wife in todays world if he doesn't already own a home, a car, and has an income has a really nice personality, never yells, frequently complements and has a face from modelers inc. If he rents, has a VW that isn't paid off yet, and has a low paying job then he has less chances. Generally the polygamists use religion to promote their lifestyle or they wouldn't be able to attract the second girl or to convince his wife. Wasn't it about 700 lost boys from the Jeffs camp?. According to my estimate from the book " mormons, oneidans, and shakers in ... america" there were about 2000 lost boys in the year 1900 that couldn't find wives because of polygamy in the lds church.
Wouldn't it be fairer to practice swinging? Isn't swinging fairer than polygamy? I have never heard of this concept anywhere that I have been in the media.
When I was a youngster I needed three girls every week to satisfy my sexual needs but I never had that help. Now that I am close to sixty I do not need sexual satisfaction, I only need someone to talk to.

I am not a polygamist and I am a member of the mainstream LDS church. Now that the disclaimers are out....

My problem with polygamy being illegal is this: We have lots of people in the public eye who cheat on their spouses or have lots of children with lots of women and that is considered the social norm. But when you have a man who "marries" three women and has children with those women it is a crime.

My assumption is that television only portrays the sensational plural marriages such as those that have occurred with underage girls not those in towns such as Centennial Park where the women must give consent. When the public is shown women who have their hair two feet high wearing identical prairie dresses they see the Islamic burqa in American form.

As long as the marriages are consensual then I do not see any problems. Unfortunately for you the Warren Jeffs of the world will be the ones on the evening news.

I think it is great that the plural communities are standing up for rights that should be theirs.
