This newest attempt by the LDS Church to distance themselves from the people that are striving to live the fullness of the Gospel, in order to be popular with the world, makes me very sad. I am reminded of all the wonderful missionaries that went to all nations, kindred, tongue, and people to declare the good news of the Gospel in it’s fullness, as well as the fundamental principles: faith, repentance, baptism for the remission of sins, and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. They went without purse or scrip, many times leaving their families in poverty and ill health to answer the call of the Priesthood. We all have many ancestors that have left a record of their journey.
What happens now the the Church is sending out a message, to all nations etc., through the media, and missionaries, etc. saying what the former missionaries have said is not true: plural marriage, united order, the principle of the gathering, ordinances that were considered essential, Adam- God doctrine, and many others? As for me, I would like to stick to the fundamentals as taught and practiced by Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, Heber C Kimball, and many other great men and women. Do we have enough freedom in this Great land — the United States of America for a woman to choose for herself?
I also notice other Christian denominations can live together in this day and age in peace, each respecting other people have a right to their own beliefs. Can the LDS Church come to this enlightenment, even though they do not agree with the FLDS? Many goups that believe and practice plural marriage, do not agree with the leadership and practices of the FLDS, but try to get along.
I grew up secular and am currently not a member of any “church” but I have some comments.
I am happily married have been since I was 18 legally but we have been commited to each other since I was 15. We have two sons and we live according to scripture as much as humans can. I obey my husband, but my obedience comes at a price. He is required by scripture to treat me as Christ treated the church. That is for ALL christians for that scripture is in the King James version of the Bible.
My husband is an honorable man and I would have no problem with a sisterwife should the opportunity or situation arrive. Polygamy has nothing to do with sex or control but love, care and companionship.
On the reverse, my sister in law married first in her 20’s. .. had a daughter and divorced. She had a second child out of wedlock with a man who disappeared after she found she was with child disappeared. She remarried into a blended family… and now is getting divorced again and already in another relationship with more blended children.
She has no protection, no trust or real commitment. She is unhappy, unhealthy and uncared for. Her daugher is a high school drop out getting ready to marry and uneducated unGodly man. Her son is shy, unsocial and without structure or the benefit of having a man to teach him about the benefits of a proper relationship.
My nephew has been married twice at the age of 25 has several children by several different women and supports none of them..
Are they not worse for their situation than the families at Yearn for Zion. The women are happy. The children are loved and cared for. The men are responsible and education.
I see no fault in a peaceful simple life.
The government supports many children that do not know their fathers, the goverment cares for many women abused by their husbands, the government allows gay marriage, divorce for any reason and teenagers having children out of wedlock are all common and financially supported by our country’s welfare system.
These responsible people ban together and care for one another, the children and the elderly in their families. Why should the government have cause to complain.
The media is only out of job security. I pay no mind to them at all. If education were more prominent the media would be out of a job.
Sorry I posed the wrong comment in the wrong place.
The manifesto was created because the “Profit” at the time of its writing said that if they did not stop this practice they would not be able to continue Gods work. Not that God condemned it or said it was wrong. Not that marriage should be one man and one woman.
Men by their very nature are high energy and enjoy the companionship of a woman. Many men leave their first wife in a bad way to have a second or even third wife. Polygamy requires the man care for ALL of his wives. I would be happy to share my husband rather than loose him entirely and many children would feel the same way.
Our heritage (EVERYONE) is more in line with FLDS. All other religions have simply modified or denounced what was not convenient for them to practice based on society not God.
The bibles basic concepts have not changed. Many other religious documents have … Church policies change in every religion. The “Church” has no right to change God’s law. It would be like me going to my sister’s house and change her rules.
What a crazy world! I am happy to be only a visitor.

For fear of losing dominance the persecuted become the persecutors……

Murdo2….Thank you for your responses….It is nice to see someone outside of Polygamy that can see its benefits, for there are many.
Let’s join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
