I stumbled across the following quote from Thomas Paine yesterday and I thought I would share it with you.
“He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.”
I know there are many people out there who don’t like us (polygamists). I would hope that they are not so blinded by their distain for us that they encourage legislation and public sentiment against us in an oppressive manner that will one day backfire and cause them personal grief.
We truly aren’t your enemy anyway. We just want what you want – to be left in peace and allowed to raise our children to be ethical, responsible, contributing members of society.
In a truly free society, polygamy, same-sex marriage, and the like would be left to the individual. I have no problem with polygamy, being a Libertarian, I really can’t, that would be hypocritical to say the least.
If we went back to the ideas of Paine, Jefferson, and the Enlightenment, things would get so much better.
(Plus polygamy is one of the most traditional forms of marriage)
I am so sad. There hasn’t been any postings for two months. 😦
I am the wife of a man who, because of his work, we spend years apart from each other. I am not like the other spouses of his co-workers who tend to engage in things very unbecoming of their position (thus the reason for so many divorces among them). Day after day, I am alone. At times, it is heart breaking.
I come here sometimes, just to dream. To dream of a different life style that is disconnected from this backward world ~ and connect with something more in tune with the things that really matter ~ family and simply living ~ and God. Temporarily, this is a place of escape for me and brightens my day. To imagine the friendships made with other women who also would never do anything unbecoming of their position. Having that sense of companionship and belonging. And, staying true even in the hardest of times.
Anyways, hope to hear from you soon. You are an inspiration to some. Even if it is only in the ability to dream.

The sisterhood we enjoy in this life is one of harmony and respect. We can enjoy our children and the children of the other ladies. They, in turn love to be together and always want to share all the occasions that any child loves, with brothers and sisters of their own family. When I say family………..wow! Brothers, sisters, cousins, grandchildren, schoolmates etc. Order, love and charity are highly valued by any women who wants to become a saint. Outdated expression?…..I’m sure! Of course we are all working hard on our family values and ideals…..it certainly doesn’t come by wishing it were so.
Thank you for writing.
