If you have three men and three women living together in a commune somewhere out west. It is considered consenting adult free love and no one (especially in California) cares.
Now, one of the three men remembers he is gay and returns to a men’s group home in Florida near the beach. That leaves two men and three women. It is still considered adult self expression and freedom of choice. The authorities yawn…
One more man departs and goes back to live with his cousin in Arkansas. That leaves three women and only one man living together. Oh well, they were taught about family planning in the sixth grade and condoms and abortions are available through a state funded program. Nobody cares…
Then, as fate would have it, they convert to Mormonism and decide to have children and live as a family—with “old fashioned” family values. Now, an eyebrow raises in some local court and the shadowy word “poly” is discussed over coffee. Moral issues and “compelling interests” are themes in editorials and newscasts. The legislature is a buzz with a new definition of “bigamy…”
At what point are the remaining commune members now in criminal violation? At what point did the numbers cause freedom to leave the equation?
A state court solves the riddle with a “new math” ruling:
“ALL OF THE ANIMALS ARE EQUAL…BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS…”

I enjoy reading this blog! The problem is that the line has been drawn based on ignorance. When people don’t want to understand a view other than their own it suddenly becomes where the line has been crossed. This is all to unfortunate for those who practice plural marriage. To many people have way to much time on their hands and should start focusing more on their own families rather than worrying about how someone else is living their life.
Why is it that a man can go and have one woman after another with no commitment yet a man who decides to fully commit to each of his wives is now seen as a criminal is beyond me.
